it’s ALL ABOUT YOU!  Get together 3-5 friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and choose a workshop. I will show up at your home [or at your neighbor’s home], backyard, town hall, snow fort. You get the idea. I provide all the materials. Workshops are for adults only. Prices vary depending on the class. Weekends fill up quickly so if you are interested, by all means, let’s talk.

Printmaking by hand: monotypes on paper

one day workshop, 5 hours

or 3-6 weeks, 3 hours once a week

Experience the fun and spontaneity of creating monotypes without a press. Using water-based paints and plexi-glass plates, you will learn to mix and layer colors, create textural variety using various tools, objects and brushesas well as how to hand-transfer the image onto printmaking paper. You will have time to create, reflect on your process and learn to loosen up.  By the end of the workshop, you will leave with an original work of art. Participants are encouraged to leave their inner critic at the door and come in and play.

Monotype + fabric: creating textiles

two day workshop, 5 hours each day

or 3-6 weeks, 3 hours once a week

Experience the fun and spontaneity of creating monotypes without a press. Finished artwork can be hand embellished with beads, stitching, wire, and found objects. This is a hand sewing class. Participants are encouraged to leave their inner critic at the door and come in and play.

     

Fabric Collage: notecards and small works of art

one day workshop, 3 hours

If you can use a scissors and an iron and have a sense of adventure this class is for you! You will learn how to adhere fabric to sturdy paper as a creative way to collage as we play with shapes, color, texture, layering and design. You do not need sewing skills. You can create note cards, an accordion style book or small works of art. You will leave the workshop with your finished artful creation and imagination zinging.

Fabric Covered Folio Book

one day workshop, 5 hours

This is a versatile book design that is a practical way to organize a myriad of information and a perfect size for on-the-go. Your book can be used as a planner, journal, or field book for nature walks. You will learn simple techniques for covering book board with durable fabric and hand folding pockets and folders from sturdy paper and embellishing with collage and mixed media. Be open to spontaneity and inspiration. Book measures approx. 5x8 inches.

     
 

Keeping a visual journal

4-6 weeks, 2 hours once a week

A visual journal is a liberating way to express your thoughts, ideas, humor and everyday life. Each participant will be provided with their own book with sturdy blank pages beckoning to be filled.  Each week we will experiment with a variety of collage techniques including photocopy, sheer papers, rivets, photographs, stitching, text and natural materials. You will fill up a page or two during the class as you develop images and ideas. A communal collage box is provided to give you a jumpstart but bring your own personal stash too! Your finished book will be an invaluable tool and reminder of inspiration and ideas for future endeavors.

About the artist:

Lori has enjoyed teaching art and being a guide to people in their creative process since 2003. She has a degree in Theater, Film and Video from the University of Kansas and has been an artist-in-residence at the Mendocino Art Center, the Vermont Studio Center and the Virginia Center for Creative Arts. She is the director of Rock Stack Studio, an artist/writer retreat in Colorado and she teaches art based workshops throughout Vermont. Lori focuses her creative energy on printmaking, photography, drawing and installation.
