I enjoy subtly suggesting stories in my artwork enticing the viewer to take a closer look and interweave their own thoughts and experiences. The titles for my artwork? Writings from my journal. Random thoughts and mind chatter that makes it way into the studio in some surprising ways…. When I started learning the intaglio process a few years ago a delicate line immediately showed up. This was a departure from my painterly style of monotypes. I delight in the spontaneity and freedom of the printmaking process and continue to explore line, color, imagery and the merging of techniques. In 2008 I created a series of stitched drawings inspired by an 8000 mile solo road trip from vermont to northern california and back to vermont. Why a stitched line versus drawing with pen or pencil? PROCESS. The sound of the needle puncturing the paper creating a rhythm, a meditation as I processed the many stories and memories that piled up on the road. My thread drawing series has continued to evolve as I investigate line through trails, roads, routes and paths that I walk. Photography. I am still amazed at the connected-ness that it brings. I walk, and walk and walk till I can make sense of my life. Sometimes that is hours and days of contemplation and quiet. It is so hard, in the fast paced world of today, to find space to quiet the mind, away from distractions that constantly interupt. My photograpy is a journey along the way, insight into moments in time and observations of the world around me.
